We chose to use cedar wood for this bird feeder due to its natural resistance to rot and decay during outdoor use. The picket fence boards make great material and they’re cheap too.

The slot for the plexiglass can either be routed or made with a 1/8″ blade on a table saw. If you do use the table saw to make the slot you may need to use wood filler to fill in the bottom 5/16″ of the slot. In our experience we used the table saw, which made the 1/8″ plexi an interference fit, so there was no need.

If you have never assembled something using spax screws you’re in for a treat. These screws don’t require pre-drilling, awesome!

Let’s agree that there are several bird feeder designs out there; ours may just be another one to add to the mix but we promise we put a lot of thought into it and how to make this accessible to as many as possible.

This easy woodworking project is a great for beginners of all ages. We have kits available if you don’t have some of the bigger tools available to you yet. We offer discounts for buying in bulk; 25 or more.
